Additional information

Tunisia declared independence from France on March 20, 1956, ending a protectorate relationship that had been imposed in 1881 under the Treaty of Bardo. This 2006 commemorative marks exactly fifty years from that date. The .900 silver specification places it in line with earlier Tunisian commemorative practice rather than the finer .925 more common in contemporary issues from neighboring mints.
