Tunisia's post-independence gold coinage was issued in extremely limited quantities, primarily for presentation and export rather than domestic circulation. The Banque Centrale de Tunisie was established in 1958, and these early gold issues reflect the new republic's effort to assert financial credibility on international markets during the Bourguiba era.
Fr#18 in Friedberg places this squarely within the modern North African gold series — a classification that understates how rarely these pieces entered any kind of trade.
