| Opmerkingen |
The 1959 series was the first issued under the republic established by the July 1958 coup that overthrew the Hashemite monarchy and ended the reign of Faisal II. Bradbury Wilkinson had printed notes for the earlier monarchical issues as well, and the Iraqi government retained them for this transitional series — a continuity of production that sat awkwardly alongside the political rupture the notes were meant to mark.
P#54 is among the more elusive denominations from the series. The 1959 notes were replaced relatively quickly by the 1971 issue, limiting the window of circulation.
