5 Dinars

The 1992 Iraqi 5 Dinar belongs to the series issued after the Gulf War, when the Central Bank was printing currency under conditions of severe import restrictions and international sanctions. The quality of paper and printing in this period dropped noticeably compared to pre-war issues, and the watermark security — minimal to begin with — was the extent of anti-counterfeiting provision on lower denominations.

This was also the period immediately preceding the infamous "Swiss dinar" split, when the northern Kurdish-administered regions stopped accepting Baghdad-issued notes entirely. The 5 Dinar denomination circulated almost exclusively in the south by the mid-1990s.
