| Additional information |
This coin commemorates the November 7, 1987 "medical coup" in which Prime Minister Zine El Abidine Ben Ali had President Habib Bourguiba declared medically unfit for office — avoiding bloodshed but ending 30 years of one-man rule overnight. Ben Ali's government framed the event as a "Change," a word that became official terminology, and the anniversary was marked annually as a national holiday throughout his presidency.
The long production window, stretching over thirteen years, reflects routine commemorative reissuing under Ben Ali rather than sustained demand. Gold issues of this type were struck primarily for the export and gift market.
