Tunisia's "Coup d'état" commemorative series marks the November 7, 1987 removal of Habib Bourguiba by Prime Minister Zine El Abidine Ben Ali — achieved without bloodshed through a physician's certificate declaring Bourguiba mentally unfit to govern. Ben Ali's government rebranded the event as a "Change," and these annual commemorative issues, struck in both Arabic and French legend variants, served the regime's ongoing project of institutional legitimacy. The French-legend version targeted collectors and diplomatic markets in Francophone countries.
