Jordan's Currency Board — a transitional authority established to manage the country's monetary affairs following separation from the Palestinian pound zone — issued this note in 1949, the year the Board itself was formally constituted. Thomas De La Rue printed the series in London under tight postwar conditions, at a moment when the Hashemite Kingdom was simultaneously absorbing the West Bank and managing a massive Palestinian refugee influx that fundamentally altered the economy it was tasked with stabilizing.
The Board's mandate was always understood to be temporary; the Central Bank of Jordan replaced it in 1964, at which point these notes were progressively withdrawn. Early P#3 examples are meaningfully scarcer than later printings within the same issue run.
