Issued to mark thirty years since the liberation of Yugoslavia from Axis occupation in 1945, this coin appeared the same year Tito's government was consolidating its Non-Aligned Movement credentials — Yugoslavia had hosted the first Non-Aligned summit in Belgrade in 1961, and by 1975 was actively positioning itself as a bridge between Cold War blocs. The commemorative program of this period was as much diplomatic signaling as domestic celebration.
