Serbia's post-Milošević monetary reorganization produced two distinct versions of this coin running concurrently — the magnetic steel-core issue and this nickel brass piece, both circulating simultaneously. The non-magnetic variant was phased out in favor of the cheaper bimetallic and steel alternatives as the National Bank rationalized production costs in the late 2000s. The first coat of arms designation refers to the pre-2010 national emblem used before Serbia updated its official heraldic symbols following the 2006 dissolution of the state union with Montenegro.
