Obverse description The state coat of arms of the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia is depicted in the central field, consisting of a torch with a flame surrounded by six wheat sheaves bound together at the base, symbolising the six constituent republics, surmounted by a five-pointed star. The date 29·XI·1943, commemorating the founding of the AVNOJ assembly, appears on the lower portion of the escutcheon. The bilingual country name legend encircles the design along the periphery in Cyrillic to the left and Latin script to the right. The denomination 5, flanked by the Cyrillic abbreviation Д and the Latin letter D, appears in the lower field below the arms.
