Reverse description The reverse presents a crowned rampant lion in high relief at the centre of the field, derived from the heraldic lion of the Palatinate — the traditional emblem of Heidelberg University. The legend encircles the entire design, reading in a continuous band: the commemorative dates '1386-1986' and '600 JAHRE UNIVERSITÄT HEIDELBERG' along the outer periphery, with the university's Latin motto 'RUPERTO CAROLA' and 'SEMPER APERTUS' integrated into the inner legend surrounding the lion. The engraver's initials appear discreetly in the lower field beneath the lion.
