Obverse description The Federal Eagle of Germany, rendered in bold relief with wings displayed and head turned to the right, occupies the central field. The numeral '5' appears prominently in the lower center of the field, flanked on either side by the split date '19 81'. The circular legend 'BUNDESREPUBLIK DEUTSCHLAND' arcs around the upper periphery, while '5 DEUTSCHE MARK' continues along the lower right, completing the inscription. The mint mark 'G' is positioned to the right of the eagle's head, identifying the Karlsruhe mint.
