| Obverse description | A full-bodied Eurasian lynx stands in profile facing right, depicted in naturalistic style atop a grassy mound with stylized vegetation in the field. The animal is rendered with fine detail, including characteristic facial tufts and spotted coat. A beaded border frames the design. The bilingual legend arcs around the upper periphery in Cyrillic reading РЕПУБЛИКА МАКЕДОНИЈА and continues below in Latin script REPUBLIC OF MACEDONIA, with the date 1995 appearing in the lower field beneath the lynx. |

Macedonia issued this coin as part of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization's ongoing campaign to promote agricultural awareness through circulating coinage — a program that had been placing FAO-themed pieces into everyday commerce across dozens of countries since the late 1960s. For Macedonia specifically, the timing mattered: the country had declared independence from Yugoslavia in 1991 and was still navigating an internationally awkward existence, blocked from UN membership under its constitutional name due to Greek objections over the "Macedonia" designation.
The National Bank had only been established in 1992, making this among the earliest substantive coin series issued under genuine Macedonian monetary authority.
