Bradbury Wilkinson printed for dozens of issuing authorities across Africa and the Caribbean during the postcolonial decades, and the Gambia series from this period is among their quieter commissions — a small-circulation country whose entire banknote output could be handled in modest print runs. The Central Bank itself was only established in 1971, making P#5 one of the earliest instruments of the new institution's monetary framework.

Bradbury Wilkinson ceased operations in 1990, absorbed into De La Rue, which neatly brackets the upper end of this note's issue period.
