Obverse description	Printed in dark brownish-red on plain paper, the obverse is framed by a simple ruled border with corner ornaments. A central vignette presents a portrait bust of Ho Chi Minh within a laurel wreath, flanked on each side by the denomination numeral '5$'. The legend 'VIET NAM DAN CHU CONG HOA' runs along the top, with two signature blocks below reading 'BAI DIEN CHINH PHU TRUNG UONG' at left and 'BAI DIEN U.B.H.C TRUNG BO' at right.

Reverse description	The reverse is printed in the same dark brownish-red ink and carries a dense foliate guilloche border enclosing a plain rectangular field. The inscription 'TIN PHIEU' appears at the top centre, with 'NAM DONG' in large letters below it, followed by the Chinese characters '伍元'. A circular guilloche rosette at right bears the large numeral '5'. A serial number prefix and number appear at the lower portion of the note.
