The Turks and Caicos Islands issued a long-running series of 5 Crowns commemoratives through the late 1980s and 1990s, largely targeting the collector market rather than circulation — the territory's de facto currency was and remains the US dollar. This piece honors West Germany's 1990 World Cup victory in Rome, the last tournament played before reunification formally dissolved the West German footballing identity into a unified German squad.
It was West Germany's third title. The final against Argentina was decided by a Brehme penalty in the 87th minute — widely remembered as one of the least entertaining finals in the tournament's history.
