The Turks and Caicos Islands, a British Overseas Territory with no independent monetary authority, have issued commemorative crowns almost continuously since the 1970s — largely as a revenue stream rather than for any domestic circulation need. This piece marks the 1997 golden wedding anniversary of Elizabeth II and Prince Philip, one of dozens of similar issues produced across Crown dependencies and territories that year.
