Printed in brown intaglio on plain paper, the reverse is dominated by the Nicaraguan Coat of Arms at centre — an equilateral triangle enclosing a landscape of five volcanic peaks rising from the sea with a liberty cap and rainbow above, surrounded by the inscription 'REPUBLICA DE NICARAGUA / AMERICA CENTRAL'. Elaborate guilloche rosettes flank the central arms on both sides, each containing the numeral '5', with the bank titles arched across the top and the denomination 'CINCO CÓRDOBAS' displayed in a decorative panel at the foot of the note. |

The Banco Nacional de Nicaragua was itself a peculiar institution — incorporated under U.S. law and majority-owned by American financial interests following the Bryan-Chamorro Treaty era, when Nicaragua's customs revenues were pledged as loan collateral. The bank functioned as both a commercial lender and a currency authority, an arrangement that persisted until Nicaragua bought out the American shareholders in 1940.
American Bank Note Company held the printing contract throughout the life of this series. The twelve-year date span on P#65 reflects reorder printings rather than design revisions — the plates were retained and reused with minimal alteration.
