Descrizione del dritto	Blue-gray note on multicolor underprint, with a central vignette taken from Luis Vergara Ahumada's painting "Primer Grito de Independencia," portraying José Matías Delgado and fellow heroes addressing the populace in San Salvador in 1811. The denomination numeral appears at the four corners within elaborate guilloche borders, and the issuing bank's title runs across the top. Fine intaglio engraving by the American Bank Note Company characterizes the overall execution.

Descrizione del rovescio	Printed entirely in green, the reverse is dominated by an intaglio bust portrait of Christopher Columbus in left-facing profile, set within a circular guilloche frame at center. The denomination numeral "5" repeats at all four corners amid intricate lathe-work underprint patterns, with the bank title in bold lettering across the top and the imprint of the American Bank Note Company at the foot. A handwritten date and an official circular control stamp with the arms of El Salvador appear on this example.
