Obverse description Olive-green and red on multicolour underprint. Central vignette of an allegorical female figure representing Agriculture, shown reclining against a bunch of bananas while holding a coffee branch, with a fruit tree, a basket of pineapples and a pumpkin in the composition. Guilloche borders frame the design on all sides.
Obverse lettering BANCO CENTRAL DE RESERVA DE EL SALVADOR PAGARA AL PORTADOR CINCO COLONES DE ACUERDO CON EL ARTICULO 39 DE SU LEY CONSTITUTIVA SAN SALVADOR 31 DE AGOSTO DE 1934.

Reverse description Printed in green. An intaglio portrait vignette of Christopher Columbus in profile faces left at centre, set within a circular guilloche frame; denomination numeral "5" appears in each corner; the national coat of arms of El Salvador is at left, surrounded by an elaborate scrollwork border running the full perimeter of the note. Imprint of American Bank Note Company appears at bottom centre.
