By 1980, El Salvador was sliding into civil war — the FMLN insurgency was consolidating and the military junta had just come to power following the October 1979 coup. Currency printing contracts with ABNC had been in place for decades by this point, and the relationship continued uninterrupted through the political turbulence, which itself says something about institutional inertia in central banking.
