Thomas De La Rue printed the bulk of El Salvador's mid-century currency under long-running contracts that gave the colón series a consistency unusual for Central American issues of the period. By the mid-1970s, the Banco Central de Reserva was operating in a deceptively stable monetary environment — the colón had been pegged at 2.50 to the US dollar since 1934, a fixed rate that would hold until 1986, which means notes from this 1976–77 window circulated under no exchange pressure whatsoever.
P#126 is a short-dated type, replaced within a few years as the denomination series was modernized.
