Banco Salvadoreño was one of several private Salvadoran banks of issue operating under the 1880 banking law, which permitted commercial banks to print their own circulating notes — a system that persisted until the Banco Central de Reserva de El Salvador was established in 1934 and nationalized currency issuance. By 1914 that private era was already under political pressure, and notes from this period reflect the last years of genuine commercial bank competition in El Salvador.

Cazneau, Chaconas was a San Salvador-based lithographic firm, and locally printed banknotes of this quality from Central America in 1914 are uncommon — most issuers of the period contracted ABNC or similar prestige printers in New York.
