Rona was a hardware cooperative headquartered in Boucherville, and this scrip note was issued for internal use — most likely for employee transactions at a company store or canteen rather than as a broad public currency substitute. Corporate scrip of this kind was not unusual in Quebec through the early 1980s, particularly among large cooperative enterprises managing their own retail and distribution networks.
