5 Cents ribbon upwards

Singapore's aluminum bronze 5-cent pieces from this period were produced under the Monetary Authority of Singapore, established in 1971 to consolidate functions previously split across the Board of Commissioners of Currency and several government ministries. The "ribbon upwards" designation distinguishes this subtype from the earlier "ribbon downwards" variety — a minor positional difference in the reverse design that collectors use to separate die marriages across the series run.

Struck at the Royal Mint in Llantrisant during peak years of Singapore's manufacturing boom, most examples saw heavy vending machine circulation.
