Pearl Harbor Navy Yard scrip was issued through the Ships Service Department to control purchasing power on base — a closed monetary system that kept cash circulating within the installation rather than bleeding into Honolulu's civilian economy. Globe Ticket Co. of Los Angeles printed a substantial share of U.S. military scrip during the mid-twentieth century, their bread-and-butter work alongside transit tokens and carnival tickets.
The Pearl Harbor Receiving Station designation places this note at the processing point for incoming and outgoing naval personnel — not a permanent assignment billet, which means turnover was constant and small-denomination scrip like this moved quickly through many hands.
