Obverse description The national coat of arms of Trinidad and Tobago occupies the central field, featuring a shield divided into three sections and supported by two birds — a scarlet ibis to the right and a cocrico to the left — both rendered in fine relief. Above the shield rises a helmet surmounted by a ship's wheel entwined with flowering branches, serving as the crest. Below the arms, two scrolled ribbons carry the national motto in raised Latin lettering: TOGETHER WE ASPIRE TOGETHER WE ACHIEVE. The circular legend REPUBLIC OF TRINIDAD AND TOBAGO arcs along the upper periphery, while the date of issue appears in large numerals at the base of the field.

Reverse description A finely engraved Rufous-tailed jacamar (commonly identified on these coins as a bird of paradise motif), the national avian symbol, is depicted in dynamic flight, angled toward the right with wings spread upward and long trailing plumage feathers sweeping downward and to the left in graceful curves. The bird perches momentarily on a bare branch rendered in the lower central field. To the right, the large numeral '5' is positioned prominently, with the word CENTS inscribed in bold capital letters along the lower portion of the field. The overall composition is uncluttered, allowing the detailed featherwork of the bird to dominate the design.
