Obverse description Left-facing draped bust of Liberty, her hair bound and crowned with a tiara inscribed LIBERTY, surrounded by a ring of thirteen six-pointed stars symbolizing the original colonies. The date appears in the lower field below the bust. The design, engraved by Charles E. Barber, reflects a classical Greco-Roman aesthetic rendered in high relief against a flat field.
