Obverse description Left-facing effigy of Thomas Jefferson, 3rd President of the United States (1801–1809), rendered in a neoclassical portrait style derived from the Houdon bust. The legend LIBERTY appears to the right of the portrait, with the motto IN GOD WE TRUST to the left. The date 2004 is inscribed below the portrait, accompanied by the initials FS (for engraver Felix Schlag) in the lower right field.
