Obverse description Gold-plated bare-headed effigy of King George VI facing left, engraved by Thomas Shingles after the portrait by Humphrey Paget, set against a deeply mirrored proof field. The portrait is rendered with fine detail in the hair and facial features, with the initials 'HP' visible in small relief below the truncation. The Latin legend GEORGIVS VI D·G·REX ET IND·IMP· curves around the periphery, separated by raised dots, on a plain silver ground outside the gold-plated portrait zone.
