Seychelles coinage in this period was struck at the Royal Mint under the authority of the British colonial administration, with issues timed loosely to currency demand from the islands rather than any regular schedule. The 1948 date places this coin in the final years of George VI's reign before his health collapsed — he died in February 1952 — and among the last colonial bronze issues before the postwar push toward currency reform across British territories accelerated through the 1950s.
