Obverse description The effigy of Queen Elizabeth II as depicted at age 27, rendered in the style of the original 1953 portrait, faces right wearing a laureate wreath in her hair. The legend ELIZABETH II DEI GRATIA REGINA arcs around the upper periphery of the coin, while the commemorative dates 1953 and 2003 flank the portrait in the field, marking the Golden Jubilee of Her Majesty's reign. This youthful effigy, originally modeled by Mary Gillick, was reused for this commemorative issue to evoke the original coronation-era coinage.
