| Obverse description | The obverse features a reduced effigy of Queen Elizabeth II in her 4th portrait by Ian Rank-Broadley, facing right and wearing the Girls of Great Britain and Ireland Tiara, with the legend ELIZABETH II AUSTRALIA 2016 surrounding. In tribute to the 50th Anniversary of Australian decimal currency, the obverse also incorporates a reproduction of the pre-decimal 1953–1964 One Penny coin design depicting a kangaroo, evoking the historical transition to decimal coinage.
