Military Payment Certificates were the official scrip for U.S. personnel in Vietnam, but individual unit clubs routinely issued their own supplementary scrip for use strictly within their facilities — keeping money circulating inside the club rather than leaking into the local economy or the black market. The 9th Infantry Division was based at Bearcat and later Dong Tam during this period, operating deep in the Mekong Delta.
These club tokens had no value outside the issuing mess, and most were discarded or lost when units rotated. Survival is almost entirely accidental.
