Obverse description Central shield bearing the ermine-patterned coat of arms of Brittany, composed of rows of stylised ermine spots arranged across the entire field of the escutcheon. The legend BRETAGNE arches across the upper periphery, with the date 2005 inscribed in small numerals immediately above the shield. The Breton-language equivalent BREIZH appears along the lower periphery, completing the bilingual inscription.

Reverse description Large denomination numeral '5' accompanied by the letter 'c' occupies the left and centre of the field, serving as the primary device. To the right, four vertical parallel lines descend from the upper field, terminating above a peace symbol (CND symbol) rendered in low relief at centre-right. Five stars are arranged in an arc along the upper periphery and five additional stars along the lower periphery, evoking the European Union coinage aesthetic. The trilingual inscription 'probe - essai - trial' curves along the lower left rim, identifying the piece as a pattern or trial strike.
