The Centrale Bank van Curaçao en Sint Maarten came into existence in 2010 when the Netherlands Antilles was dissolved as a constituent country, splitting monetary authority between the two remaining islands under a shared central bank. The arrangement is administratively unusual — two autonomous countries, one issuing institution, one currency.
The 2025 date places this among the earliest nickel plated steel issues for the denomination, following a composition change driven by rising raw material costs that made the older nickel alloy strikes increasingly uneconomical to produce.
