Redonda is a uninhabited half-square-mile rock in the Leeward Islands whose "kingdom" is a literary fiction dating to the 1880s, when eccentric publisher Matthew Shiel claimed the title for his father. The succession has since passed through a chain of British authors including John Gawsworth and Jon Wynne-Tyson, with competing claimants issuing rival nobilities and, eventually, coins with no legal tender status anywhere on earth.
