Beschrijving voorzijde The central field displays the full coat of arms of Suriname, featuring a quartered shield with a sailing ship at upper left, a palm tree at upper right, and a five-pointed star at the base, supported on either side by two indigenous figures holding spears and standing on a plain ground. The motto ribbon below the shield bears the Latin inscription JUSTITIA PIETAS FIDES, and the country name SURINAME appears in large lettering along the lower arc. Decorative foliate branches frame the design in the corners of the square flan, filling the space between the central circle and the coin's rounded corners.

Aanvullende informatie

Suriname's coinage through this period was produced under Dutch authority — the territory remained a constituent country of the Kingdom of the Netherlands until full independence in 1975. These pieces were struck at the Utrecht mint, identifiable by the caduceus privy mark used by that facility during the relevant years.
