Reverse description The central field displays the large numeral 5 above the denomination CENTS in bold raised lettering. Flanking the central inscription is a wreath of olive branches, the two sprigs tied at the base with a ribbon bow, their leafy boughs curving upward to frame the denomination. The motto IN GOD WE TRUST arcs along the upper border between the wreath tips. A beaded inner border and dentilated outer rim complete the design, consistent with the proposed nickel five-cent pattern coinage of 1867.
