Torrecilla de Alcañiz is a small municipality in Teruel, Aragon — a province that saw some of the war's most grinding front-line activity during 1936–38. Like hundreds of Spanish municipalities caught in the Republican zone during the Civil War, it issued its own emergency fractional notes after the hoarding and requisitioning of metal coins created an acute small-change shortage. The Consejo de Aragón period saw this kind of local paper proliferate rapidly, with virtually no standardization in format or security.
The nearly square proportions here are unusual even among the idiosyncratic village issues of the period, where small rectangular formats were more common. The Garrido Morón reference number is incomplete, suggesting this piece was recorded but not fully catalogued — possibly known from a single or very small number of surviving examples.
