Opmerkingen

Sarrià de Ter is a small municipality in the Gironès comarca, and like hundreds of Catalan towns during the Spanish Civil War, it issued its own emergency fractional currency when metallic coin disappeared almost entirely from circulation in 1936–37. These tiny square pieces — and the square format itself is unusual even among the wildly varied local emissions of that period — were produced locally under the authority of the Republican municipal government, almost certainly on whatever card stock was available rather than purpose-made banknote paper.

Turró's catalog documents over 2,000 distinct Catalan municipal issues from this period. The sheer number made quality control irrelevant; survival was the only standard.
