Comments

One of hundreds of small-denomination emergency notes produced by Catalan municipalities during the Civil War, after the withdrawal and hoarding of metallic coinage left everyday transactions effectively paralyzed. The Republican government's inability to supply sufficient small change pushed the burden onto local councils, cooperatives, and even individual businesses — hence the extraordinary proliferation of these bitllets locals across the region from 1936 onward.

The C.A.M. press in Barcelona handled production for multiple municipalities simultaneously, which kept costs down but also meant quality and paper stock varied batch to batch. Premià's issues are among the more modestly documented in the Turró corpus.
