Òdena is a small municipality in the Anoia comarca of Catalonia, and like hundreds of other Catalan and Spanish towns it issued its own fractional emergency paper money during the Civil War after the Republican government's coin shortage of 1936–1937 stripped local commerce of its small-denomination coinage. These municipal vales — locally produced, often on whatever card stock was at hand — were only valid within the issuing municipality and became worthless the moment you crossed into the next town.

Turró catalogues over 2,000 distinct Catalan issues from this period. Òdena's single known type is among the smallest formats in the corpus.
