Opmerkingen

Noalejo is a small municipality in the Sierra Mágina comarca of Jaén province, and like hundreds of similarly sized Andalusian towns, its local council issued emergency fractional currency during the Spanish Civil War when Republican-zone copper and silver coinage vanished from circulation almost entirely by late 1936. These municipal cartones — printed on card or heavy paper rather than banknote stock — were purely local instruments, accepted only within the issuing municipality and typically worthless a few kilometers away.

The Gari catalogue documents this as the sole denomination type for Noalejo. Survival rates for provincial cartones of this type are highly uneven; many were never redeemed and simply discarded once the war ended.
