One of hundreds of small-denomination emergency notes issued by Catalan municipalities during the Civil War, when Republican-zone commerce collapsed almost entirely at the fractional level. The central government couldn't supply enough coin, so individual towns, cooperatives, and even local committees filled the gap themselves — legally endorsed under a 1937 Generalitat decree but wildly inconsistent in execution.
Malgrat, a small coastal town in the Maresme, issued these céntimos notes for purely local use. Turró catalogues them as scarce survivors; most circulated hard and briefly before becoming worthless after Franco's monetary consolidation.
