| Opmerkingen |
Lopera is a small municipality in the province of Jaén, Andalusia. During the Spanish Civil War, the Republican side's economic disruption — particularly the hoarding and disappearance of metal coinage — forced hundreds of local committees across Spain to produce their own emergency fractional currency. The Comité del Frente Popular de Lopera was one of thousands of such bodies that stepped into the vacuum, issuing small-denomination notes on whatever stock was available locally.
The thick card construction is characteristic of these Andalusian municipals, where printing infrastructure was limited and cardboard or heavy stock substituted for proper banknote paper. Genuinely ephemeral objects — most were pulled from circulation and replaced within months as the war front shifted.
