Les Cabanyes is a small municipality in the Alt Penedès comarca of Catalonia, and like dozens of similar villages during the Civil War, its agricultural cooperative issued emergency fractional currency when Republican Spain's small-change crisis made low-denomination coinage effectively impossible to obtain. These hyper-local issues — often printed on whatever card stock was at hand — were never intended to circulate beyond the immediate community, sometimes only within the cooperative's own membership.
The Gari Mon catalogue reference is incomplete, which is typical for the less-documented Catalan village issues. Many were produced in very small runs and survive today almost by accident.
