Obverse description Left-facing allegorical bust of the Spanish Republic, rendered in the classical tradition by sculptor Mariano Benlliure. The figure wears her hair swept back and is adorned with a Phrygian cap, a traditional symbol of liberty, positioned atop her head. An olive or laurel branch emerges behind the bust at the lower right, adding a decorative and symbolic element to the composition. The legend REPUBLICA ESPAÑOLA curves along the left periphery of the field in raised Latin characters.

Reverse description The large numeral '5' dominates the central field, beneath which the denomination CÉNTIMOS and the date 1937 are inscribed in two lines, the date flanked by small parenthetical ornaments. The entire central design is framed by a wreath composed of olive branches on the left and laurel branches on the right, their stems joined at the base, forming a classical garland. The flat, uncluttered field and bold typographic style reflect the utilitarian aesthetic of wartime Republican coinage.
