Fonts de Sacalm — now known as Balneari de Fonts de Sacalm, a small spa town in the Girona province — was one of hundreds of Catalan municipalities that issued emergency fractional currency during the Civil War after the Republic's coin supply collapsed in 1936–37. The Generalitat de Catalunya authorized local authorities to print their own low-denomination notes to keep daily commerce moving, which produced an extraordinary proliferation of hyper-local issues, most in tiny print runs.
Imprenta Litografia Sabadell y Cia. in Barcelona handled a significant volume of these municipal commissions, which is why the production quality across different issuing towns often looks strikingly similar despite carrying different names.
