| Obverse description | Printed in dark blue letterpress on plain light grey card stock, the obverse is framed by a simple rectangular border with a scalloped inner rule. A central cartouche with a wavy-edged frame bears the issuer name in two lines. Below the cartouche, the face value numeral appears in large bold type, accompanied by the denomination word to its right in smaller lettering, both in dark blue. Cadaqués is a small fishing village on the Costa Brava that issued its own emergency scrip during the Spanish Civil War, when the Republican government's centalization of coinage production left municipalities scrambling for small change. Turró catalogs hundreds of these local Catalan emissions; most were produced hastily by regional print shops with whatever card stock was available, and Imprenta Trayter in Figueres served several neighboring towns during this period.
The municipal stamp was the primary — often the only — security measure standing between a legitimate note and a forgery. That it functioned at all reflects less on the technology than on the tight-knit economies of wartime rural Catalonia.
